In this month’s GSY workshop, we’ll be using a provided, inflatable exercise ball (squishy ball) along with somatic movement flows to discover how to unlock chronic low back tension and hip pain. The squishy ball gently supports and massages the body as it hydrates connective tissue. This creates a dynamic sensory experience, increases blood flow and nourishes the nervous system which is essential for our body to repair and restore. (Our bodies cannot heal when they are in a pain or stress response).

The ball rolling, together with specific somatic movements begin to release areas of tension and pain, and help to retrain the brain to notice how you move – or don’t move. Through these mindful movements you are able to feel and connect with chronically tight or frozen muscles and teach them how to relax, thus restoring a sense of ease, peace and well being.

Gentle Somatic Yoga (GSY) is a unique “art of movement” practice that combines traditional Hatha yoga, Hanna Somatic Education, breathing techniques and healing visualizations. Through restorative sequences called Somatic Movement Flows®, we are discovering how to unwind stiffness, pain and postural imbalances, and will dramatically increase flexibility through brain-to-muscle re-education. From this place of new-found freedom, we naturally return to our generative state of peace and wellbeing.

In GSY, we explore new ways of movement that unlock and erase habitual patterns of holding stress. Through these restorative sequences called Somatic Movement Flows®, we are discovering how to unwind stiffness, pain and postural imbalances, and will dramatically increase flexibility through brain-to-muscle re-education. From this place of new-found freedom, we naturally return to our generative state of peace and wellbeing.

A little bit about Heather:

Heather Till is a Certified Professional Yoga Therapist and Gentle Somatic Yoga Practitioner. Her teaching is rooted in mindfulness and gentle movement practices that invite a deep nourishment of the nervous system and encourage moving from an inner awareness to unravel chronic tension and pain patterns, thus enabling us to reconnect with our body’s natural rhythms and ability for health and resilience.

All abilities and ages are welcome.

This workshop is available for both in studio and virtual.
